Companionship and daily support
Not every household needs personal care. Some need company, a lift to an appointment, and somebody to keep on top of the house — and those are the things that keep somebody living independently.

What daily support covers
- Company, conversation, and doing things together rather than alone
- Shopping, errands, and picking up prescriptions
- Lifts to appointments, and staying for them where that helps
- Light housekeeping, laundry, and keeping the kitchen usable
- Meal preparation and making sure somebody is eating
- Help with post, bills, and the paperwork that piles up
- Getting out of the house — a walk, a coffee, a regular something
Who it is for
- Someone living alone whose week has quietly emptied out
- Someone who has stopped driving and has lost range along with the car
- Someone managing fine at home except for the parts that need two hands or a lift
- A family living too far away to drop in, who want somebody who does
What to expect from a caregiver
Somebody who turns up when they said they would. For a person whose week is built around two visits, being late is not a small thing.
They will do things with the person rather than around them wherever that is possible. Taking over a task somebody can still do is the fastest way to lose it.
They will tell you if something has changed — eating less, going out less, post stacking up. This is often the first place a change shows.
Common questions
Is this the same as personal care?
No. There is no washing or dressing in this. Plenty of households have both, and one often turns into the other over time.
Can somebody take my mother to appointments?
Yes, including staying for the appointment and telling you afterwards what was said, if that is what she wants.
How short can a visit be?
Tell us what you are trying to cover and we will tell you what makes sense. Very short visits often cost more per useful hour than a slightly longer one.
