What support with ABCare looks like
Support is built around the person receiving it. We start by asking what a good week looks like for you, what you already handle yourself, and where you want a hand.
We think people belong in their own communities. In a home they chose, doing the things they want to do, with the people they know. Support should make that easier rather than take it over.
You have one case manager. They meet you face to face, they know your situation, and they stay the same person as things change.
Two ways to work with us
Once you are approved, your funding can be managed in one of two ways. Both start with the same phone call, so you do not have to decide before you get in touch.

Self-managed funding
You hold your funding and you decide who to hire. We can be one of the people you hire, for as much or as little as you want.
Managed by us
Provider-managed funding
Your funding comes to ABCare and we coordinate your supports for you. Less administration for you, and one team to call.

How to get started
Call us
Tell us roughly where you are. You do not need your paperwork in front of you, and asking costs nothing.
We meet
We sit down with you, and with anyone you want in the room, and work out what support would actually help.
Support starts
We write a plan with you, introduce the support workers, and adjust as we go.
Why services are changing
Nova Scotia is changing how support for adults with disabilities is provided. The change comes from a legally binding agreement with the province. It is known as the Human Rights Remedy, and it runs over five years.
The direction of the change is support that is person-directed and based in the community. That means people living in homes they chose, doing what they want to do, with support built around them.
